Cees Hertogh, MD, PhD

Cees Hertogh, MD, PhD, is professor of elderly care medicine and geriatric ethics at the department of General Practice & Elderly Care Medicine of the VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam. He chairs the University Network for Organizations of Elderly Care of the VU University Medical Center (UNO-VUmc), a collaboration between VUmc and 25 organizations of elderly care (nursing homes, residential care homes and home care organizations). He designed and supervised the IMPACT study on rational prescribing of antibiotics in nursing home residents (ZonMw: 205100011) and is presently involved in projects that aim to design best practices in Antibiotic Stewardship (ABS) in long-term care. He also initiated and supervised the Delphi study on diagnostic criteria for urinary tract infections in frail elderly. He chairs the guideline committee on urinary tract infections of the Dutch Association of Elderly Care Physicians and Social Geriatricians (Verenso) and participates in the Dutch Working Party on Antibiotic Policy (SWAB) as a member of the guideline committee on ABS. Next to his work with the VUmc, Dr. Hertogh works at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) as a member of the Task Force Antimicrobial Resistance, Bilthoven.
