Howard Guzik, MD, is the Senior Medical Director for Skilled Nursing Facility Services for Northwell Health in New York State. He is the Chief of the Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine and Medical Director of the Stern Family Center for Rehabilitation, an attending physician at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and an Associate Professor Medicine at Hofstra School of Medicine at Hofstra School of Medicine. Dr. Guzik has focused his research activities on the field of end of life and palliative care, with a particular interest in advance directives and the provision of palliative services in the long-term care setting. He is currently involved in studies of the MOLST (Medical Orders for Life Sustaining Therapy) process in his health system’s nursing home consortium and projects addressing transitions of care for the frail elderly.
